History In The Making
First
conceived back in 1996 by BitVisions founder Anthony Lawrence during an
exercise into distributing his own artwork to a global audience. In Anthony's
own words "Mobile phones had just become more accessible, affordable
and widespread. It occurred to me that in the future they would deliver
images. Putting two and two together it seemed like the ideal solution
to delivering artwork to anybody, anywhere. Only one problem now stopped
me from realizing this vision, the hardware wouldn't arrive for another
8 years"
After leaving the art world in search of an alternative profession in
Information Technology Anthony stumbled across WAP as part of a business
project back in 2000. "WAP delivered black and white images to phones,
now the cogs where turning. If this new protocol and these new devices
could render monochrome images it wouldn't be long before color images
followed".
Here we have the birth of BitVisions, October 2000, and a gradual expansion
over the past 3 years into the future of wireless digital art.
With communications between Anthony and Ingrid Kamerbeek (one of the first
artists to see the potential of BitVisions) and the patronage of Dr Chang
(Pygoya) in early December 2003, BitVisions decided to execute phase two
and 'Let There Be Color'
